Detroit— from www.detnews.com – The FBI arrested three men Thursday for their roles in a prostitution ring that organized parties at suburban spots, including bowling alleys, where prostitutes offered goodie bags filled with underwear and golden tickets for free sexual favors.

The sex ring relied on several websites, run by the men, which linked prostitutes with customers, who attended “meet and greet” parties across the state, Windsor and the Midwest. The prostitution ring also might have employed an underage prostitute, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

The ring is at least the second major prostitution service busted in Metro Detroit recently. Last year, federal investigators broke up the Miami Companions prostitution ring, one of the largest in the country.

The men charged Thursday — David Kilvington of Sterling Heights and West Bloomfield residents Steven Thompson and Mark LeBlanc — face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of interstate travel for the purpose of engaging in prostitution.

The prostitution ring did not appear to be as slick, or lucrative as Miami Companions, and the three men all had day jobs. LeBlanc is a lawyer, Kilvington a salesman and Thompson a certified public accountant.

The ring relied on two websites: www.aesource.net and www.escortvault.com. Both websites have been shut down.

“They’re very well known in the east and west portions of Michigan and have thousands of members,” FBI Special Agent Sandra Berchtold said.

The suspects’ court-appointed lawyer, Rhonda Brazile, declined comment.

A federal magistrate judge jailed Kilvington on Thursday and scheduled a detention hearing for 1 p.m. Friday. Thompson and LeBlanc were released on $10,000 unsecured bond. LeBlanc is prohibited from using a computer or accessing the Internet.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Southeast Michigan Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The case dates to March 19, 2007. That’s when a parent said their 17-year-old daughter was involved in drugs and prostitution, according to an email sent to investigators.

According to the email, the daughter got involved through an online escort bulletin board, www.scorpsguideusa.com, or Scorps, which the feds say was run by LeBlanc.

“Please stop these people,” the parent wrote. “They take money from the girls to run these escort boards and get them involved in a bad lifestyle.”

A Scorps-linked prostitute was later arrested and sentenced to probation in January 2008, forcing prostitutes and customers to migrate to www.aesource.net and www.escortvault.com, according to an affidavit filed by an FBI special agent in federal court.

Thompson owned AESource and Kilvington owned Escort Vault while LeBlanc acted as a consultant to both websites, according to the feds.

The websites allowed customers to chat with prostitutes, and organized “meet and greet” parties in public places — including Royal Lanes in Warren, Fairlane Bowl in Madison Heights and near Island Lake Recreation Area in Brighton. The parties drew about 100 men and women, including many from out of state.

At an AESource party June 22 at Fairlane Bowl, a prostitute named “Wicked Kittie,” sold $10 gift bags to customers. The bags were filled with chocolates; gold, black or green tickets; and underwear belonging to the prostitutes, according to the affidavit.

The golden ticket gave customers a free one-hour tryst with one of 10 prostitutes. A black or green ticket was worth a free 30-minute appointment.

During the parties, prostitutes were given awards for performing various sex acts.

The sex happened off-site. At a party Sept. 7 at Fairlane Bowl, two people were spotted leaving the bowling alley and driving to a Troy hotel. That same night, another couple drove to a hotel in Livonia.

A client named “Harmonic” gave Escort Vault a poor review three years ago.

“You will find some very overpriced escorts,” Harmonic wrote in an Internet review. “Some escorts there have very good service and (are) nice looking but most are over priced, fat, ugly, or just give bad service or have a bad attitude.”

The arrests Thursday came five months after Miami Companions co-owner Greg Carr was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

In that case, investigators seized a client database of more than 30,000 customers — including a rock star and a Washington lobbyist — who paid as much as $500 an hour to have sex with Miami Companions prostitutes.

The case netted five convictions but mild sentences for all but Carr.

U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow, who presided over the Miami Companions case, repeatedly questioned why the case, which involved consensual sex for money, was in his court. They are typically handled in state court, he said.

The new case is different because it involves allegations of underage prostitution.

That’s not the only apparent difference, Carr’s lawyer Paul DeCailly said Thursday.

“What is alleged looks more like a swingers club, which some people might find disgusting, but perfectly legal,” DeCailly said.
