But can she fix an oil spill?
From www.gather.com – Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan begins confirmation hearings Monday. Kagan has put few of her personal and political views on record. This made her an attractive candidate to a beleaguered Obama in need of a major political victory.
Of the views she has expressed, she seems to from the Tipper Gore camp of liberal-sponsored censorship. A recent profile on politico.com highlights her views on adult material. www.adultfyi.com/read.php?ID=42605
In her writing, which is dated from 1993, she espouses a now very out of date belief, popular among socially conservative democrats that adult entertainment is demeaning and disempowering to women.

Since the advent of the internet, however, such notions have proven to be very far from the truth. The online adult entertainment industry has given individuals–both men and women equally–the ability to express their sexuality. The control, financially and artistically, is squarely in the hands of women and a great deal of affirming entertainment has been produced. Recently, MSNBC reported on the rise of women in the adult business.
Government censorship in all forms is a frightening proposition. As Kagan is questioned by our elected representatives, they should be ensuring that her views on the subject have caught up with the obvious reality.
