from www.chicagotribune.com – A good Samaritan and his Great Dane came to the aid of a girl who was being attacked Thursday in the Logan Square neighborhood and kept the suspect at bay until police arrived.
At 4:44 p.m. Thursday, the 14-year-old girl had just gotten off a Diversey Avenue bus near the 2800 block of North Whipple Street. A man followed her and then attacked, throwing her to the ground, according to police.
He began to pull her pants down causing her to scream, police said.
A neighbor walking his dog heard her and came to her rescue with his Great Dane.
The suspect ran, but the Great Dane and its owner were able to corner him on the 3000 block of West George Street, police said.
Police arrested Larry Smith, 28, of the 3700 block of South Wells Street. He was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, police said.
The Great Dane didn’t bite Smith, and the girl was not seriously injured.
Smith is slated to appear in bond court this morning.
