Raleigh, NC– Cary Police arrested a self-proclaimed porn star who’s linked to a missing 12-year-old boy.
Dakota Melton, 21, is charged with second-degree kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Investigators say Melton met the 12-year-old Sanford boy on MySpace, a social networking site. When the two met in person, police say Melton crossed the line.
“We got some info from the Sanford Police Department,” Captain Michael Williams, Cary PD, said. “They had began investigating a missing person’s case — a 12-year-old from Sanford.”
Investigators say the boy told his parents he was going to meet a friend. That friend, according to police, was Melton. The two initially met on MySpace.
Police say Melton picked up the boy in Sanford, took him to dinner and a move, and then brought him back to his Cary apartment.
According to search warrants, the boy fell asleep on the couch and woke up to Melton “sucking on his neck.” A medical exam found hickeys on the boy’s body and a foreign pubic hair in his shorts.
Investigators say Melton is into porn. On his MySpace page, he portrays himself as an 18-year-old former porn star.
Police say Melton has been extremely cooperative — even admitting to them he and his roommate make their living by masturbating over internet Web cams. Police are still investigating that claim.
“He [Melton] informed us that a lot of the way he gets his money to support himself is through what we feel like is some acts over the internet — whether or not there is a criminal violation in that — we haven’t determined that yet,” Captain Williams said.
The investigation is not over and Cary Police say more charges are possible. Melton’s bond was set at $20,000, but he bonded out Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to appear in court 9 a.m. Friday.
Report from WRAL: Cary, N.C. — Police arrested a Cary man Thursday in a suspected case of sex crimes involving a 12-year-old Sanford boy.
Dakota Walter Lee Melton, 21, of 324 Brook Arbor Drive, is charged with one count of felony taking indecent liberties with children and one count of second-degree kidnapping. He was out of jail Thursday afternoon on a $20,000 secured bond.
According to search warrants returned Tuesday, Melton met and chatted with the boy on Myspace, picked him up near his home in Sanford and took him back to Cary, where they went to dinner and a movie before going back to Melton’s apartment.
The boy fell asleep on a couch and awoke with a man “sucking on his neck,” investigators said in search warrant affidavits. A juvenile-certified sexual assault nurse examiner found hickeys on the boy’s body, the warrant stated.
During their initial investigation on July 24, Melton told investigators at his apartment that he and his roommate, performed sexual acts via a Web cam for their primary source of income.
That prompted investigators to apply for search warrants. They seized five computer hard drives, a DVD, a digital camera and two memory cards from the apartment.
Authorities said Thursday the investigation continues and there could be more arrests.
The maximum sentence on a conviction of second-degree kidnapping is 74 months in prison and 49 months for indecent liberties with a child.
