Israel Mireles to be Sentenced in Zoe Zane Slaying

EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) – A man convicted of killing a Kansas college student who was also an Internet porn model is returning to court to be sentenced.

Israel Mireles was convicted of capital murder and rape in the death of 18-year-old Emily Sander [aka Zoe Zane], a student at Butler Community College. He faces life in prison when sentencing takes place Wednesday morning in Butler County District Court.

Sander left a southeast Kansas bar with Mireles on Nov. 23, 2007. Her battered, nude body was found six days later about 50 miles away.

Mireles was arrested December 2007 in Mexico. Prosecutors had to promise Mexican authorities they would not seek the death penalty before his extradition was approved.
