NY- [philly.com]- Last weekend was a busy one for Comics Guy, as I attended the ever-growing New York Comic Con. Here are some highlights.
Jenna Jameson: At a panel titled “Girls Who Kick Ass,” retired porn star Jenna Jameson, promoting her Virgin comic series, “Shadow Hunter,” stole the show.
“I think my whole entire life I’ve kicked ass,” she said. ” . . . To me, life is a game and I want to win.”
Jameson said she first got into comics reading her brother’s Superman books before “graduating” to books like Spawn. She also scoffed at the notion that it’s difficult to break into the industry.
“It’s hard?” she asked. “I think the general consensus is that it’s hard. But for me, it’s just a . . . natural progression. It was very easy for me. I was accepted with open arms.”
“I think fans of comics are the most loyal, hardcore fans I’ve ever come across,” she added. “I’ve done a lot of things in my life and adult video fans are pretty hardcore, but I’m so excited to do more and explore all the great ideas and take it to the next level . . . you just push it and push it and push it.”
Jameson is confident “Shadow Hunter” will end up on the big screen one day (sources say a deal for video game and second comic series are done). She says she owes her success to her attitude.
“Obnoxious is always good,” she said. “You can be talented and not know how to market yourself . . . It’s really about telling people what you believe. The more you tell people how wonderful and fantastic and talented you are, (the more) they believe it.”
She also said “Shadow Hunter” has also given her a new fan base.
“It’s given me a huge amount of female fans, which is important to me because I’m a feminist, contrary to popular belief. I hope to change some of these girls’ lives.”
Then, with perfect timing, she added: “I already know all the guys here . . . I’ve changed their lives.”
