Bone posts on www.johntbone.com: This is like one of those things that magicians do where they tell you to think of a number and double it and other stuff and you do and you are absolutely astounded at the end results and you keep scratching your head trying to figure out how they did that.
So follow me very carefully:
I had a contract with Skye to supply her with finished, edited, movies at my cost, she would pay for the packaging and the distribution costs and we would split the revenue 60/40.
With me so far?
It says in the contract that all of the distribution costs are hers, this is important, so I pay for the movie, she pays for the distribution, money comes in and we each share in the income, right? Right.
OK, so I give her a movie called Latin Extreme, she loves it, she loves it so much that she buys Latin Extreme 2 from me outright with no backend deal. So you would think that I would make money from this deal, right? Right.
It is over a year since the movie was released and my sales reports show that she has only sold $6473 worth of movies, territories, everything, hummmmm? But here is the best part, she has tagged 3 extra distribution charges, remember all distribution charges were hers, to the tune of $6411 onto my side of the deal. What!
What that means is not only has she not paid me anything but she has charged me $6411 for the pleasure of having her release my movie and deducted that money from royalties from other movies.
So to date if we can believe her figures, she has benefited by a total of $12,884 from my movie whilst I have lost $6411 plus the cost of the movie and its editing costs, pretty bizarre huh?
More stories to come.
