Africa- Information and Civic Education Minister, Patricia Kaliati has said government cannot effect any dismissal to state broadcaster, Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) reporter, Dorothy Kachitsa [pictured] who is being featured on steamy pornographic materials.
Kaliati told a news conference in Lilongwe that there is no law that can be used to fire the porn journalist and that arresting her will as well be a non-starter.
The Information Minister who controls MBC warned what she said women spreading the pornographic materials on the Internet, saying they risk being “sternly” punished, once caught.
“As government, we are saddened by these materials. But we cannot dismiss from work, women being featured in these materials, because we don’t have a law mandating us to do so,” said the minister.
“It seems women, we are problems of ourselves. We are destroying ourselves, by publishing these materials. Please, let us stop these malpractices,” warns the God mother of Kachitsa.
Kachitsa, who according to colleagues at MBC has multiple relationships, was withdrawn from an assignment in Zambia, where she was to cover the funeral service of the late Zambian President, Levi Mwanawasa after the pornographic materials started circulating in Malawi.
There has been no immediate comment from the state broadcaster since Kachitsa’s “dark room” habits have been laid bare.
But sources form the national broadcasting house said Director General, Patrick Khoza – well respected broadcaster- called for management meeting following the pornographic scandal of its member of staff.
However, sources said his deputy Bright Malopa believed to have been in “good books” with Kachitsa is said to have not been cooperative in the matter.
About a month ago, some prominent professionals in Blantyre, both married were arrested by police and later released on bail after being charged after a video clip in which they were featured nude in various positions was leaked to the general public.
