Veteran pornstar Kora Peters has taken the lead in getting government health agencies involved in the Syphilis outbreak affecting the adult community both in the US and Europe.
Ms. Peters has contacted the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Occupational Health and Safety Association (OSHA) and several local health departments in an attempt to help save the porn industry from itself.
“No Industry can police itself,” says the star.
“And since there are so many conflicting stories, treatments, and misinformation floating around I thought it best to seek answers and government health officials involved.”
Ms. Peters efforts are on behalf of an industry that is obviously in need of serious regulation. Spreading sexually-transmitted, communicable diseases such as Syphilis and cavalierly spreading the infection to the “general population” via escorting, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and private shoots with “fans” is something that puts everyone at risk and Ms. Peters decided to do something about it.
“At first people at the CDC didn’t know how to respond,” says Ms. Peters.
“They were surprised an adult actress would reach out on behalf of fellow performers to try and get some information and action. But once I explained the severity of the situation and how new cases of Syphilis are being discovered daily combined with a lack of education on STD, blood-borne pathogens, and Universal Precautions within the Adult Industry, they became extremely concerned.
“The CDC, OSHA and other health departments across the country have now become aware of this developing and dangerous situation and I’m hopeful someone with authority, knowledge and the power to insist on halting productions, testing everyone in the Adult Industry, and most importantly educating the producers and performers will step in and help us cleanup this mess and prevent it from happening again in the future.”
