TARZANA, Calif. from www.ktla.com – — FBI agents conducted a search for child porn at the home of a Los Angeles city official appointed by Mayor Anotonio Villaraigosa, authorities confirm.
Agents seized computers and other items from the home of 63-year-old Albert Abrams on Wednesday, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
No one has been arrested, and no charges have been filed, Eimiller said.
According to an affidavit, authorities had “probable cause” to believe that at least one computer at Abrams’ home had child porn on it.
Abrams was the president of the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners until he resigned last week. He was appointed to the panel in 2008.
The board is made up of seven members, and they oversee neighborhood councils.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Abrams said in an interview that he did not know if he was the target of the FBI investigation.
He said he had surgery earlier this year for a growth on his spine, and that the growth caused “behaviors that were completely out of character,” according to the Times.
When asked if those behaviors included downloading child porn, the Times says Abrams responded: “That’s a legal question. You’d have to talk to my attorney.”
