LOS ANGELES — Instead of being out on patrol, several local police officers officers with the Corona Police Department are accused of having sex inside their patrol cars, instead.
NBC4’s Mary Parks reported an allegation has been made by numerous sources that the alleged misconduct occurred inside the squad cars, but parts of the investigation and specific information cannot be revealed by the police because it is a personnel matter.
But the department told NBC4 publicly three men were disciplined, but, four sources told Parks that that number is higher.
Officially, it was a five-month investigation, into what the department calls serious misconduct.
But among the rank and file, it was “on-duty booty,” meaning colleagues were allegedly involved in sex acts with a female civilian employee on duty.
Sources claim, she was asked to resign.
Sgt. Jerry Rodriguez of the Corona Police Department said, “Unfortunately, during the investigation … rumors became rampant that there were … numerous employees involved and I believe that the number was 30 … That is completely inaccurate and false. So we conducted the investigation and the facts are that there were three employees involved in serious misconduct.”
Parks said sources within the department claim the employees were demoted or given severe pay cuts, but no one was fired.
A handful of employees were verbally scolded for not reporting the alleged misconduct.
Two private attorneys told Parks, “It is not illegal to have sex on duty in California. But it does present a question of ethics.”
The Corona Police Department has a new policy that employee relationships must be reported to division commanders.
“Morale is fine. Like anything else, any time issues come up in any organization, we have an obligation to look into the matters and make sure that things are dealt with, appropriately, added Sgt. Rodriguez.”
The city maintains no calls for service were compromised because of this misconduct and the investigation is now complete, said Parks.
