Lawyer Wants Wiki Rape Rap Reinstated

from www.nypost.com – A lawyer for two Swedish women who claim that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange sexually assaulted them wants rape charges reinstated against the Web whistleblower.

“I have appealed the decision of the prosecutor,” lawyer Claes Borgstroem said yesterday.

Last Saturday, Swedish prosecutor Eva Finne withdrew a rape charge against Assange — just hours after an arrest warrant was issued for him. Finne said “new information” warranted the move.

But Borgstroem told Agence-France Presse that Finne had “not spoken to the two women.”

Assange has denied all allegations, vowed to cooperate with officials and linked the charges to a Pentagon “smear campaign.”

He claimed the government is behind his woes in retaliation for WikiLeaks’ release of US documents about the Afghan war.
