Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born on July 28, 1963, Jack Richman was a native of Bronx, NY. He attended Junior High School 135 and Christopher Columbus High School. Richman later resided in Palm Desert, CA, and passed away in Santa Monica, CA.

Richman was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He was described as having a big heart and being generous towards his loved ones, cherishing time spent with family and friends.

Before co-founding Legend Video, Richman worked in operations at Western Visuals in 1986. It was there that he met Bruce Mendleson, who was directing sales at the company.

Founding and Growth of Legend Video

In September 1989, Richman partnered with Bruce Mendleson to launch Legend Video. The company initially operated as a wholesaler before expanding into production and distribution. Over its history, Legend Video produced and distributed approximately 1,500 adult titles.

Richman and Mendleson maintained a clear division of responsibilities at Legend Video. Richman managed the operations, while Mendleson oversaw sales. This partnership lasted for 24 years, with Richman describing Mendleson as being like an older brother to him. Richman noted their close working relationship, stating, "We worked hand in hand for 24 years. I knew him better than his wife did."

Richman also commented on Mendleson's consistent temperament and work ethic, stating that Mendleson "came in first and he left last every day." He further added that Mendleson "was lovable… He always took the time to talk to you. He didn’t care who you were, how big or small."

The business philosophy shared by Richman and Mendleson emphasized hard work and starting from scratch every day. Richman acknowledged that there were "good days and bad days like anything else," but ultimately described Mendleson as "a good guy and a lot of people will miss talking to him."

Legend Video received several AVN Awards during its operational period.

Later Years and Personal Life

In 2013, Richman and Mendleson sold Legend Video to Caballero Pictures. Mendleson continued to work for Caballero for a few years after the sale.

Richman is survived by his fiancée Gail Rosenthal, his son Blake, and his sister Shirley, who is married to Frank. He is also survived by his niece Marisa Nolan and nephew Matthew Nolan. Richman was preceded in death by his father Manny, his mother Dora, and his brother-in-law Serg Nolan.

Kim Garcia, who was Blake's nanny when the family lived in Spanish Hills in Camarillo, described Richman as a "very nice employer" and the family as "very nice."
