SACRAMENTO - The son and daughter of disgraced congressman Gary Condit drained $226,000 from Justice PAC, a political action committee formed to "explore then-Congressman Gary Condit's press coverage," the Fair Political Practices Commission claims in Superior Court.
"Defendants Chad M. Condit and Cadee P. Condit received $226,000 from Defendant Justice PAC for no discernable work," the FPPC claims. The PAC was formed under the name "Keep California Golden," but changed its name and purpose after Rep. Condit came under scrutiny when a young aide with whom he had a sexual affair, Chandra Levy, disappeared. The FPPC claims Chad got $126,500 and Cadee took $99,500, in exchange, apparently, for nothing, and they spent it on themselves. The agency seeks more than $2 million in fines.
The Condit kids allegedly were hired to make a documentary film about Chandra Levy's disappearance, though neither of them has experience in film making, and there is no indication they actually tried to make such a film, the FPPC claims. It states, for example, that "Cadee Condit had no qualifications to perform the services for the committee for which she was compensated, did not produce any discernable work product in relation to expenditures made to her, and did not provide compensable goods and services to Defendant Justice PAC. The $99,500 in expenditures made by Defendant Justice PAC to Defendant Cadee Condit were for personal use." The complaint also details the numerous payments Chad Condit made to himself and his sister, including "Christmas bonus(es)." It took the Condit kids just 16 months -from February 2002 to June 2003 - to drain Justice PAC's bank account "from having $270,793 in cash-on-hand to just $1,513.87," the FPPC claims. At that point, the PAC was abandoned.
