WINNECONNE, Wisconsin – from www.thenorthwestern.com – A 62-year-old Winneconne man told police he was the victim of an attempted scam after he tried to make a date with a prostitute on craigslist, an Internet want ad site.
The man, who told police he had not had sex in many years, agreed to pay $150 for sex and made a date to meet a woman named Samantha at the IHOP restaurant in Grand Chute on Saturday. However, when he got there two men in their early 20s met him and demanded $300.
They claimed to be students from Fox Valley Technical College working a sting operation for the Grand Chute Police Department. They threatened to call the newspaper, their instructor and the sheriff if he failed to pay them, a Winneconne police report said.
The man told police he told the pair he had no money and left the restaurant without incident. He described the two as a white man named John wearing glasses with thin frames and a white shirt, and a Hispanic man named Alex with spiked hair wearing a light colored sweatshirt.
The Grand Chute Police Department was not involved in the incident, Winneconne police said.
