BEAVERTON, Ore. — from www.kptv.com – A Beaverton adult shop is closing after a neighborhood group put up a fight.
The strip club known as Pussycats moved up the street to Southwest Rose Biggi Avenue after a fire in September and reopened as Secret Pleasures, a lingerie modeling business.
Since the move, neighbors fought hard to close the store down. Tonight some of those neighbors celebrated in the shop’s parking lot after they saw the shop’s owner moving out.
Don Dutro is the owner of a nearby salon and he supported the group fighting to shutter the adult shop.
“There was traffic that just didn’t seem like it fit the area. It’s a pretty important family-oriented area and it’s good to have them gone,” Dutro says.
The owner of the adult store, who asked not be identified, told a FOX 12 reporter over the phone that he moved out voluntarily because he didn’t want the community to be in an uproar.
He says even though he was following all the rules, he didn’t want to make everyone feel uncomfortable in that neighborhood.
The owner says the other location damaged by fire should be ready for business in January.
At this time, the owner says he’s not sure he even wants to come back to Beaverton because of all the resistance from neighbors.
He says he has other adult shops in the Portland area and hasn’t had any problems with neighbors near his other stores.
