Tabetha Yang posts: HI Gene, Just thought I would throw in a comment or two on the testing issues as well. There are many tests for HIV, including: PCR, PCR-DNA, etc. Most of the tests are not FDA approved. Does this mean that they do not work? Perhaps it is just that the companies behind them did not desire to spend the time and money to get an FDA approval. In any case, Nicole’s question as to why we are using what test is a good one. I have known Sharon for many years now, and I am sure she would be happy to explain why AIM has chosen the PCR-DNA vs. the other alternatives. Testing frequency, and when detection can occur are two separate issues. Testing once a month, with an 8 week window of when you could detect infection simply means that it could be 3-4 months before you would test positive. With testing each two weeks you cut that to 2 1/2 months. Where that may not seem like much it is when you take into account how many scenes are shot per talent each month. More frequent testing shortens the time from contact to quarantine. Tests that detect sooner shorten things even more. Being able to track who has been with whom isolates how big the problem is, and how long it takes to deal with it. Tabetha Yanghttp://www.HEARDSystem.com
