WEST SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – from www.masslive.com – For 16 years, Daniel Crespo has quietly run an adult video shop at 2025 Riverdale St.

But a recent flap about a sign at his Adults Only Video Store has resulted in the city sending him packing. Officials are forcing him to close down by Oct. 31 over what they say is a zoning issue.

And Crespo seems resigned to his fate, but disappointed. “I feel hurt,” he said during a recent interview at his store.

In addition to videos, his store carries a full line of sexual products and novelty items.

“There is nothing here that is bad,” Crespo said of his store.

Mayor Edward J. Gibson said the store became an issue after a constituent telephoned him complaining that while driving by the business her granddaughter asked her what sex toys are.

For his part, Crespo said his sign simply stated “Toys, DVDS and Magazines.”

“If it did (mention sex toys) I would have been happy to change it,” Crespo said.

The sign issue resulted in Building Commissioner Patrick J. Moore sending Crespo a letter dated June 24 ordering him to cease and desist operating his business immediately.

Moore said that the store is not in an area zoned for adult businesses. There are three such areas off Riverdale Street and a strip of land along Union Street, Moore said.
