Ordinance limits Gulfport adult businesses

GULFPORT, Miss. — The Gulfport City Council has approved a sweeping ordinance to restrict operation of adult entertainment businesses.

The council approved the new regulations Tuesday.

City attorney Jeff Bruni said that the Legal Department reviewed studies from around the country to draft the ordinance. It restricts the location of sexually oriented businesses, including those that operate as bookstores, cabarets, theaters, escort agencies, nude model studios or motels.

Bruni says adult entertainment businesses cannot locate within 1,000 feet of a building used for religious worship, an educational facility, a day-care center, liquor store, a park or recreational area, a night club or dance hall, a hospital, residential property or another adult entertainment business.
