from www.wtam.com – Bond was set at $5,000 for a Lorain man accused of trying to extort money from Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club in Cleveland.
34-year-old Joseph Schwarz was arraigned Wednesday morning on charges of extortion and possessing criminal tools.
According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, Schwarz worked for the Department of Labor as an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspector for approximately 10 years.
From June 3 to July 12 of this year, Prosecutor’s Spokesman Ryan Miday says in an e-mail that Schwarz falsely claimed he had video of customers inside Larry Flint Hustler’s Club at 1101 Center Street performing illegal sexual acts and drug activity.
Schwarz claimed there were four girls who were subjected to such actions. Using his work and home computer, as well as his personal cell phone, Schwarz e-mailed the Club in an attempt to extort $2,500 for each of the four girls, totaling $10,000. He falsely claimed to be a lawyer when having these communications.
On July 12, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force set up a meeting to exchange money and arrested him.
Judge Michael Russo was assigned the case. The first pre-trial is scheduled for August 16 at 9:00 am.
