Oxnard, California – from www.nbclosangeles.com – A teacher at Oxnard’s Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School is on paid administrative leave while the district investigates her suspected participation in pornography, according to district officials.

Allegations surfaced last Friday, when students alerted Haydock administrators, who said they could not confirm the rumors because filters kept them from searching for the videos at school.

Using smart phones and outside networks, administrators found the videos which depicted someone who they said could be one of their teachers.

Officials suspected that high school students alerted younger siblings about the teacher’s potential pornographic history.

That teacher was placed on leave Monday morning, said Jeff Chancer, Oxnard School District superintendent.

A letter was sent home with students Tuesday describing the incident and warning parents to monitor their children’s behavior on the Internet. The note cited social media and students’ curiosity as possible catalysts to spread inappropriate material.

In the letter signed by Chancer, the teacher was described as having been “depicted in at least one pornographic video and possibly others on the Internet.”

Chancer said he has seen part of a video, but could not confirm whether it featured the teacher in question.

Students had mixed reactions to the news — some claimed the school district should stay out of the teacher’s personal life while others said it was inappropriate behavior for a teacher. They all agreed that the story was a hot topic on campus.

The district has not had problems with this teacher in the past, officials said. The allegations do not involve any students in the Oxnard School District.

from www.vcstar.com – A teacher at an Oxnard junior high school was put on paid administrative leave this week after allegations surfaced that she participated in a pornographic video, district officials said Tuesday.

The teacher at Haydock Intermediate School, which includes seventh and eighth grades, was not named by school officials, who said the video did not involve any Oxnard School District students.

“The teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the allegations,” Superintendent Jeff Chancer said.

The investigation will look into whether the teacher actually was involved in such a video.

“My biggest concern right now is the effect it will have on the learning of our children that we serve,” Chancer said Tuesday.

The allegations first came to the attention of school administrators on Friday.

Some students had spread a rumor that one of the teachers was a porn star, Chancer said. Haydock administrators investigated but didn’t find any evidence that the rumors were true. They sent an email to staff members saying the rumors were unfounded.

Later that day, however, a few teachers reported to school officials that they thought the rumors might be true, based on information they had found online.

Chancer sent a letter home Tuesday to parents of students at the district’s three junior high schools, informing them about the incident.

“Since the allegation surfaced, the information has spread quickly throughout the district,” he said in the letter. “We are concerned that students may attempt to view or access inappropriate sites and possibly attempt to post links to pornographic material on their Facebook site and other social media sites.”

Students cannot access such sites through school computers, which have filters that block access. But Chancer cautioned parents that students might be able to access inappropriate websites on their smartphones and computers outside schools.

“We are asking teachers to discourage the children from searching for and/or visiting these inappropriate sites,” he said in the letter. “We ask that you be particularly vigilant over the next few days with respect to the Internet content being accessed by your child on his or her telephone or other Internet-ready devices.”

Haydock Intermediate also made headlines in 2010, when officials investigated allegations that a boy and girl engaged in oral sex in the back of a classroom while the rest of the class watched an educational film.

The investigation was completed, but district officials declined to give details about their findings, citing privacy rights of staff members and students.

Assistant Superintendent Sean Goldman did say Tuesday there was no connection between the two incidents.

The most recent allegations involve a teacher’s behavior outside of school in her private time, officials said.

To take steps such as disciplinary action or termination, officials likely would have to make a connection that the teacher’s private life was affecting learning in the classroom, according to the district.

“If it is true, is that someone we want teaching our children? That’s the question we have to answer,” Chancer said.

State law outlines crimes that prevent employees from working in a public school setting. In this case, however, no one has been accused of committing a crime.

State law also outlines other conditions related to employees working in a public school, such as moral turpitude. Someone guilty of such conduct could be disciplined up to and including termination, officials said.
