DENNIS TOWNSHIP – The State Police have charged a Cape May County man with using his car to display pornographic materials at a Garden State Parkway rest area.
Police said Robert Joseph Martin, 47, of South Dennisville Road in Cape May Court House, was placing the materials in visible locations on the dashboard and seats of his 1989 Lincoln when he parked it in a commuter area at the Ocean View Service Area.
State Police Sgt. Gerald Lewis Jr. said motorists and patrons of the service area have complained for the past several weeks. Martin was arrested at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning while parking his car at the service area, which is at milepost 18.
Lewes said the pornographic materials include naked Barbie dolls, woman’s panties on a platter, magazines and music discs with lewd images. Asked if Martin did this on purpose, Lewis said, “Absolutely.” He was interviewed by police before the arrest.
“He was arrested for maintaining a nuisance and displaying pornographic material,” Lewis said.
Martin was released on $5,000 bail. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
