LAS VEGAS, NV – Performer Availability Screening Services (PASS) announced on June 12, 2025, that the adult industry’s temporary production hold has been lifted. This decision follows confirmation that all potentially exposed performers have tested negative for HIV.

Production Hold Triggered by HIV Reactive Test

The production hold was initially triggered by an HIV reactive test reported on June 10, 2025. PASS was informed by Talent Testing Service that all known exposed talent have been retested and received negative test results. These retests were conducted using industry-standard RNA testing.

Based on the date of the performer’s last clear test and the standard window period for exposure, PASS stated that the results suggest no transmission from or within the performer pool and no excess risk to performers. The production hold was lifted immediately, and any performer with a current clear PASS test panel is approved to return to work.

JRL CHARTS Gay Adult News confirmed the lifting of the hold on June 12, 2025. LA Direct Models also reported on June 12, 2025, that PASS had lifted the production hold immediately.

PASS Protocols and Goals

Production holds are temporary suspensions of adult film production, involving the locking of the PASS system and the implementation of an exposure investigation. These holds are called when a potentially significant increase in STI exposure risk to the performer pool has been identified. The most common trigger for a production hold is an active performer being diagnosed with HIV, though other viral STI diagnoses or a large increase in the incidence of other STIs can also initiate a hold.

PASS’s paramount goal during a production hold is to reduce risk to the health and safety of the performer pool by containing exposures before transmission can occur. Other goals include minimizing the amount of time production is halted and ensuring regular and clear communication with industry members regarding the hold's status and compliance. PASS also aims to mitigate legal, fiscal, and social liabilities associated with such events.

Current production hold procedures have been in place since 2017 and were designed in collaboration with testing partners at that time. Once an HIV+ test for a performer is confirmed, all performers who have been potentially exposed are brought in for retesting. PASS sets guidance and policy to minimize the infectious disease risk to adult performers as much as is feasible.

Historical Context and Safety Record

PASS has maintained a record of no transmission of HIV on a PASS-compliant set since 2004. While acknowledging that there is no way to entirely eliminate the risk of infectious disease transmission when there is interaction between humans, PASS emphasizes its role in minimizing such risks.

In a separate event on March 25, 2020, the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) lifted a mandatory production hold related to the use of non-standard testing protocols by Talent Health Labs (THL). At that time, there were no positive tests for either syphilis or HIV. However, the FSC urged adult content makers to uphold a voluntary production hold related to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that shooting during the pandemic posed a health risk and was neither safe nor ethical. The FSC reopened PASS at that time to prevent compounding the health crisis with a blackout on STI information.
