Phony Doc Performed Ass Exams

OCALA – A 41-year-old man allegedly posing as a medical doctor at the clinic he worked at was charged with two counts of sexual battery in performing two rectal exams – one on a 15-year-old and the other on a 19-year-old patient.

Thomas J. Younk, 41, of Auto-Medical Clinic of Ocala, was silent while being led to an Ocala police car, that was waiting to take him to the Marion County Jail. He was also charged with two counts of practicing without a valid Florida health care license, according to an Ocala police report.

The woman and the teen told police they went to the clinic at 1220 E. Silver Springs Blvd., and after complaining of back pain were examined by Younk. The two are sisters.

In a police interview, one of them said on June 30 she was having back pains and that her mother contacted Younk. Younk allegedly told the mother to bring her daughter to the clinic where he would give her a massage to relieve the pain.

The mother and one of her daughters went to the clinic, and Younk reportedly examined her spine and checked her hips. Younk then told the teenager to pull down her pants so he could look at her tailbone.

After laying her down on the table, Younk reportedly massaged her back while explaining the procedure to the teen and her mother. Following a series of examinations, Younk told the teen the only way he could relieve the pain is to check her organs for infection by performing a rectal examination.

Once the procedure was concluded, he told her she was “healthy.” Police then conducted another interview with the second victim who told them the same story.

Younk’s defense attorney, Charles Holloman, sounded confident when asked if the charges against his client were true.

“They got their investigation, and we have got ours, and it’s a different conclusion, and we’ll see who is right. Right now, he’s presumed innocent,” said Holloman, as the car that contained Younk drove away.

Ocala police Detective Miguel A. Gauthier and Angie Scroble interviewed the mother and daughter. The Star-Banner does not publish the names of alleged victims of sexual crimes. According to the probable cause report, the two females found out Younk wasn’t a medical doctor from Dr. John Anthousis, M.D., the clinic’s medical director. He told them Younk was the director of marketing and a TMJ technician with a doctorate degree.

Anthousis’s wife would not pass the telephone to her husband Wednesday night and refused to comment, before she hung up. A supervisor at the clinic named Karen, which is open until 7 p.m. daily, would also not comment saying that Dr. Anthousis would be the only person who could comment.

Anthousis is a retired lieutenant colonel with the Air Force and is a part-owner of the clinic. The clinic is located in a small strip plaza, next door to Inkman Dan’s Timeless Art tattoo parlor, across the street from The Ritz Historic Inn and a Checker’s restaurant.

One of the females told detectives that Younk said he was a medical doctor in Wisconsin, but has not renewed his license to practice in Florida. The Florida Department of Health, Division of Licensing has confirmed that he does not have a license in Florida.

Younk has had one other brush with the law. In 1999, he was convicted in federal court for conspiracy to commit mail fraud. He served 21 months in prison and was ordered to pay $856,572 in restitution.

According to the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations, the clinic is registered under Younk’s name. Younk lives in Ocala with his family.

As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, he was still at the jail on a $25,000 bond.
