Louisiana- Local, state and federal law officers raided a house in Shreveport’s Queensborough neighborhood this week as part of an investigation into a pornography ring that allegedly had videotapes of bestiality and violent sex acts.
Daniel Smart, a 32-year-old man who was in the Frederick Street house when agents raided it, is under federal investigation in the case, authorities said.
Thousands of videos, DVDs and CDs were seized, State Police spokesman Doug Pierrelee said.
Authorities said they have found no evidence films were made at the house. They described it as an investigation into the copying and worldwide distribution of material.
Pierrelee said Smart had been running the operation out of the house for seven years.
Reached at his home for comment this afternoon, Smart declined comment.
Authorities started investigating in December 2004 after receiving an on-line tip. Pierrelee said,
“They e-mailed and said, ‘You’ve got to help this girl. She’s going to get killed,'” he said.
That young woman has been located and and is OK, Pierrelee said. Investigators say there is no evidence that anyone was actually killed in the videos, saying it was probably staged.
Agents who raided the house said they found Smart chatting on the computer under the name “Kinky Saline.” They said his on-line business, Cybertainment, grossed about $40,000 a month.
Pierrelee said Smart has been indicted on federal charges of obscenity, mail fraud, tax evasion and money laundering.
