Santa Clarita- from www.scvnews.com – The website for KHTS AM-1220 – www.hometownstation.com – has come under a cyber attack from unknown individuals attempting to violate the trust and credibility of the station with its dedicated listeners and advertisers. KHTS became aware that “hidden pornography links” had been imbedded on the website.
“There is no way for the general public to see these links without specific knowledge of how to access it,” said KHTS Co-owner Carl Goldman.
The hidden links have been removed, and a security protocol has been established to insure the site’s protection against future attacks.
Then last night the radio station received a threatening email from an anonymous person:
“Comments: There has been a rumor going around that KHTS has hidden porn on there (sic) website. Turns out that if you look at the code of there website THERE IS! I thought this was a family friendly website in a family friendly town. How can this be ok? The community needs to know that the “safe” local website is publishing adult content!!!!!! I let me kids on that website. I trusted KHTS. NOT ANY MORE! I will tell every one what I found and never to trust them again!!!!!”
Now, hackers cyber attackers have been attempting to exploit their handiwork by sending the same email to KHTS advertising partners.
KHTS co-owner Jeri Serratti-Goldman emphasized that at no time were pornographic images visible on the website. While it was unclear initially whether or not the cyber attacks were targeting KHTS specifically, it’s clear someone is exploiting the situation to hurt KHTS and their reputation with the public.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and FBI has been contacted to assist.
