Porn Valley- Jack Lawrence, www.jacklawrencexxx.com, can’t go out of the house and run a simple errand without turning it into an Italian opera with a chorus of 9-1-1.
Thursday afternoon Lawrence’s errand was a little more complicated but before the day was over, Lawrence and the fat lady were doing duets. Lawrence had to go to court in Van Nuys to see about a ticket he got for a tinted windshield.
Lawrence comes across an intersection where there are two cars that appeared to have had fender benders. Lawrence rubber necks and notices that two guys are going at it, rolling on the ground. One is trying to clobber the other with a baseball bat.
“I thought two kids are fighting, big deal,” says Lawrence. “Just as I’m about to look away I see this silver flash. It’s an aluminum baseball bat and I realized that as one guy got on top, he starts wailing the other guy. He’s stradling and riding the other one, cowgirl. But he doesn’t know how to hold the bat and it’s hitting the ground instead of the other guy’s head. he’s trying to kill this guy.”
Lawrence wails on his on horn and jumps out of his car yelling, “Drop the bat! Drop the bat!”
“I guess the guy thought I was a cop,” says Lawrence. “I had the training- I know what to say even though I didn’t have a badge and a gun on me.”
As Lawrence yelled, both guys stand up and the guy with the bat motions to Lawrence like he’s going to knock Jack’s head off. Lawrence said he had his own body turned at an angle so the guy with the bat couldn’t tell if he was carrying a gun. Lawrence was wearing a suit.
“I was hoping the guy figured I was an undercover cop or something,” Lawrence relates. “So I’m yelling at him and he’s not dropping the bat. He gives me this look, like, dude, I’m going to knock your head into left field. So I look slightly off his shoulder and yell, ‘Look out!’ And the guy started to turn his head. I rushed him and I drove my shoulder into his chest and knocked him on the ground. Then I wrestled the bat away from him.
“The guy started fighting again,” Lawrence continues. “So I ran to my car and put the bat in my car figuring at least they can’t kill each other now.”
Lawrence then broke up the fight. By his mannerisms, the guys apparently thought Lawrence was off duty fuzz or something. They were sitting on the curb and one guy was wiping sweat off his forehead. Because of the glare of sunlight off his cellphone, Lawrence got into his car to dial 9-1-1. As the guy who had the bat tried to leave, Lawrence ran up to him telling him not to drive.
“Give me your keys!” Lawrence told him. “He’s kind of got this look in his eyes that I’m taking off no matter what.”
Lawrence then looks on the ground and sees a license plate which evidently came off as accident debris when the cars crashed into one another. Lawrence picked up the plate thinking if the guy who wielded the bat drives off Lawrence has his plate.
“He was driving a new Mercedes Benz,” says Lawrence. “The guy who was being hit was driving a new BMW.”
As the baseball bat guy took off, Lawrence thought, okay, if he’s got a gun in the car he’d rather the guy took off and the police catch him later through his license plate. The fleeing guy, according to Lawrence, made a u-turn burn out. But, as it developed, the license plate belonged to the other guy.
“The guy who was getting beat up was like a 225-pound Hispanic guy- a big guy with tattoos,” says Lawrence. “You could tell that he might have been a gang member at one time but now he’s this cool guy. He’s, like, dude, thank you so much. That guy was going to kill me. I said at least I got his plate and he goes that’s my plate.”
By now other cars have stopped to look and Lawrence yells at one of the cars to follow the other guy to get his license plate.
“And the lady just looked at me and shook her head like I’m not getting involved,” Lawrence relates. “Before the cops came I was describing my clothing as an RP [reporting party] so I wouldn’t get taken out of my car at gunpoint.”
The cops, under the impression that there was an assault with a deadly weapon in progress, pulled a gun on the Hispanic guy.
“They had him walking on his knees and walking backwards toward them- the whole thing,” Lawrence continued. “Then I made contact with the cops and they were about to cuff me, and I said, whoa, I’m the reporting party; I’m the one who broke up the fight. They said okay. Then I gave my statement and my description.”
Lawrence said the cops then basically wrote a statement as to why Lawrence was late for his own court appearance.
“I did really well with my ticket and got an attaboy from the judge, too,” says Lawrence. “So that was cool.”
Lawrence’s hope was that if he was on his back and someone was wailing at him, someone would jump in to help.
“I told myself, hey, there’s a good chance I’m going to get hit with a baseball bat and there’s a chance that I could die. But I always thought this way- what if was me and would I be pissed off if somebody able bodied didn’t jump in to help? There were dozens of cars and people stopped at the intersection watching the whole thing going down. Nobody got out of their cars. In fact I saw one lady out of the corner of my eye rolling up her window.”
