Hollywood- Rob Lowe makes the TMZ pages today in a sex scandal of a different stripe. But it was back in 1988 that Lowe was involved in one of his own, making him basically the first celebrity to be caught in a videotaping incident that de-railed his career for a time.

In one portion of the tape Lowe has sex with two women, one of whom was sixteen. This happened in Atlanta while Lowe was attending the Democratic National Convention. Lowe always claimed he didn’t know the one girl was underage. He met her at a bar and said he had every reason to believe she was of age because she was hanging out there.

Also on the tape, Lowe is involved in a menage a trois in a Paris hotel room with a model named Jennifer and another male friend of his identified as Justin Morris. It was this part of the tape that was made commercially available. Lowe subsequently attended a sex addiction clinic in the fallout from the scandal.

Amusingly in all of this, is the fact that Lowe’s married to Sheryl Berkoff, the daughter of the late porn king Norm Berkoff. Berkoff, along with his business partner Tony Romano owned a company called VEP which subsequently filed Chapter 11. Berkoff died in 1996 of a heart attack.

Lowe met Sheryl Berkoff, who was then a make-up artist on the set of Bad Influence. He eventually proposed to her at a race track and they were married [and still are] in 1991.
