from ww.nydailynews.com – Activists hoping to bring mandatory condom use to even more Southern California porn productions have cleared a new barrier.
Six months after the city of Los Angeles passed a law requiring condoms on adult film sets, a ballot measure affecting the entire county has qualified for the November ballot.
AIDS activists gathered enough signatures to put the issue up for a vote arguing porn performers deserve better protection from sexually transmitted diseases.
Many in the industry, including veteran star Ron Jeremy, oppose the initiative.
“Surveys show the vast majority of the public doesn’t find condom use erotic, or arousing. If people have a choice of seeing porn with or without condoms, they’ll choose without. They’ll chose imports from overseas and low-budget, amateur productions,” Jeremy, 59, told the Daily News.
“If the requirement isn’t universal, all it does is hurt California filmmakers,” the native New Yorker, who claims he’s completely disease free after more than 2,000 performances, said. “It will lead to the outsourcing of porn. Like with airlines and phone companies, you’ll hear more accents in your porn.”
