Kentucky – from www.courer-journal.com – The director of Scarlet Hope ministry, a non-profit Christian organization that aids women in the adult entertainment industry, will make a presentation Tuesday at the Clifton Community Council’s Land Use and Preservation Committee meeting.
Rachelle Starr will tell about the ministry’s plans for operating at the Sycamore Manor house on Sycamore Avenue in Clifton. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the United Crescent Hill Ministries community center, State Street and Frankfort Avenue.
The 3-year-old ministry serves 250 to 280 women every week by going into strip clubs in Louisville and providing home-cooked meals or desserts to them in 12 of the 24 clubs in Louisville, according to Starr. Sycamore Manor had been used for more than 40 years by Operation Appreciation, a retreat ministry for soldiers at Fort Knox, until it ended last year and the housing complex was recently turned over to Scarlet Hope, which plans to expand its services.
Scarlet Hope also helps women seeking to leave the industry obtain their GEDs and offers counseling, transportation and bible studies. It also is considering starting a short-term, transitional residential program for women and their children and children’s activities at Sycamore House.
