Tampa- from www.zimbio.com - Stephanie "The Big Ragu" Ragusa listened with tears in her eyes today in court as she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for having sex with two teenage students. Ragusa nodded her head and accepted the sentence, which included five years of sexual offender probation, at one point crying during the hearings.
The sentencing brings an end to a two-year ordeal. Ragusa was arrested three separate times in March and April, 2008, for having sex with two students, ages 14 and 16, from Davidsen Middle School in Tampa, Florida, where she taught math. At the time, her smiling mug shots enraged a public shocked that she would be so brazen about her sexual predations.
At her Monday sentencing, Circuit Court Judge Chet Tharpe expressed his dismay at Ragusa's smiling, "lackadaisical" attitude in the courtroom. He described her as a "sexual predator" who presented a real danger to the community.
"You were a teacher," Tharpe said. "And as parents, we place our trust in teachers to provide a safe environment in which our children can learn. You violated that trust in the worst imaginable way. You preyed on these young boys..."
