from www.medpagetoday.com – The big news from the American Medical Association’s House of Delegate meeting was the adoption of a balanced billing resolution that received the support of two-thirds of the House.
Several less newsy (but much more interesting to a non-doctor audience) resolutions were adopted as the policy of the AMA, which just wrapped up its annual meeting in Chicago.
Here are some of the more intriguing policies adopted by the AMA:
— Condom Use in Porn: It is now AMA policy to support legislation to require porn actors to use condoms on-screen. This policy stemmed from a resolution on the safety and health of performers in the adult film industry, introduced by, you guessed it, the California delegation. The AMA’s public health committee heard testimony that if porn actors used condoms in their movies, it could be “an act of role modeling to ensure the general public use condoms.” The new policy also directs the AMA to support legislation that aimed at improving the ability of local health departments and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to investigate and control “occupational exposures” to infectious diseases in the porn industry and existing OSHA standards be enforced to reduce exposure of infections diseases in the adult film industry.
