OCEAN CITY, Maryland — The owner of two Baltimore-area adult entertainment venues who filed for town council elections will be questioned by resort officials about the validity of his application.
Every candidate for mayor or council must, among other requirements, be registered to vote in Worcester County. They also must be full-time Ocean City residents for at least four months before the Oct. 21 election.
William Joseph Steiner, Jr., signed an application stating both were true, according to the document, which is available as matter of public record.
However, according to the Worcester County Board of Elections, Steiner first registered to vote the next day, on Sept. 24. Town officials also question whether he’s made his full-time home in the resort, Jacobs said. Steiner lists his home as a 12th Street condominium.
To determine whether Steiner’s application is legitimate, Mayor Rick Meehan and the town council will meet with him during a Sept. 30 council work session, according to City Clerk Carol Jacobs.
Steiner, who did not return calls for comment, owns McDoogals and McDoogals East, two adult entertainment venues in Baltimore, according to property records he himself provided along with his application.
In 2006, Steiner sought to bring another adult entertainment venue to Willards, but residents there quickly amended their zoning laws to keep strip clubs out of town. Other nearby towns also decided to change or create laws banning strip clubs.
