Volunteer State – from www.wlsam.com – A former Tennessee elementary school teacher who was sentenced to prison for repeatedly contacting a student she had a sexual relationship with won’t be getting out of prison early.
The Tennessee Supreme Court said Monday that it will not hear the appeal of Pamela Joan Turner, formerly Pamela Rogers. The decision means that the former Warren County gym teacher will be in prison until June of 2013.
Rogers was convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old student at the Warren County, Tenn., school where she taught.
She served a few months in jail and was released on probation and ordered to stay away from the boy.
Turner, who is now 33, was sent to prison in 2008 after sending sexually explicit photos of herself to the boy.
Here is the background story from August 13, 2005:
McMinnville, Tennessee (AP): A former physical education teacher indicted for sex acts with a 13-year-old male student has been sent to jail for nine months in a plea deal.
Pamela Rogers Turner, 28, entered a “no contest” plea on Thursday that allowed her to avoid a scheduled November trial on multiple charges of having sex with the teenager during a three-month relationship.
A court clerk said the nine months in jail is part of an eight-year sentence for the attractive former homecoming queen previously described by the sheriff as “absolutely gorgeous”. Judge Bart Stanley accepted Turner’s plea and said the jail time would be followed by supervised probation. He also directed Turner to surrender her teaching certificate, and barred her from granting interviews or profiting from her story.
Turner was arrested in February and freed on bail after investigators discovered the relationship.
Before resigning, Turner taught physical education and coached girls’ basketball for two years at an elementary school in Tennessee.
