Teacher fired for showing porn to students

BIXBY, Oklahoma — Charges were filed Friday against a Bixby High School substitute teacher who is accused of showing pornography to freshmen and sophomores.

Michael S. Carson, 35, of Tulsa was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of displaying harmful material to minors.

Officer Erik Smoot, a school resource officer, said the incident is alleged to have occurred Nov. 30 in a math class.

“He began talking to some of the boys and began showing them some pornographic material he had on the phone that included some animated cartoonlike pornography as well as some obscene pictures,” Smoot alleged.

Carson, who had not been arrested Friday night, was employed through Kelly Temporary Services in Tulsa, Smoot said.

One student reported the incident, but more witnessed it, he said.

“Some of the kids, when we talked to them, were just concerned that they would be in trouble for looking, and some were embarrassed to tell their parents. The kids were a little confused, I think,” he said.

Smoot said Carson had worked as a substitute at the school several times and was considered a favorite of students.

“This is the first complaint they’ve had on him,” he said.
