NY- A Beacon High School teacher’s assistant was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after Beacon Police found her in a parked car with a 15-year-old male student, police said.
Police found Sharon A. Travis, 43, and the student, at Madame Brett Park in Beacon at 2:30 a.m. on Monday.
After an investigation, the City of Beacon Detective Division determined that she and the boy were having a relationship.
Travis was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
She was arraigned in the City of Beacon Court and sent to Saint Francis Hospital for evaluation.
Fern Aefsky, superintendent of Beacon City School, said she couldn’t talk about Travis’ employment status, as it would be a violation of personnel laws.
“But I can assure you that we’re cooperating with law enforcement agencies and doing all that we can to assure that students are safe in the school environment,” she said.
