from www.kctv5.com – The Johnson County District Attorney’s office has charged a 28-year-old woman with aggravated child endangerment.
Kristin Macias faced a Johnson County judge Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after she made a series of reckless decisions, police said.
Witnesses said Macias walked into Austin’s Bar and Grill on Monday night in Gardner topless. While someone inside the bar rushed to get her a shirt, others kept her from entering the bar.
When Macias walked back to her car, an off-duty police officer noticed what was happening. The officer and other witnesses saw that Macias had left an 8-month-old baby alone in the heat of her car. At 7 p.m. Monday, the outside temperature was still nearly 90 degrees, which could have been a deadly scenario for a baby.
Macias was taken into custody and her baby girl was handed over to her grandparents.
District Attorney Steve Howe said any time children are involved, things get much more serious.
“The focus of this office is to protect those who can’t protect themselves,” he said. “That’s generally children or the elderly. It does motivate us greatly when we get these types of cases.”
Macias’ father said Tuesday that his granddaughter is in good health and he is hoping this horrible situation can help his daughter straighten out her life.
Macias was already expected in court this week on a possession of heroin charge from last month. She was being held on a $5,000 bond. It’s a bond the family said it does not intend to pay.
