NY- A trust-fund transsexual was branded a brute yesterday by her elderly millionairess mother – who claimed her son-turned-daughter broke her arm in a fight over money.
Constance Joyce Cheney, 84, barely looked at her oldest child, Diane Wells, as she entered Manhattan Criminal Court in a wheelchair.
“It could have been better,” the upper West Side woman said of her relationship with Wells, whom she referred to as her daughter. “We argued a lot, mostly about money.”
During one of those arguments last May, Cheney testified that Wells berated her about Wells’ expected inheritance.
“I think she was annoyed that I had not changed the will,” she said. “She wanted to be the sole beneficiary.”
Cheney said the argument inside her $4 million Central Park West apartment turned physical when Wells blew cigarette smoke in her face.
Asked by a prosecutor how she knew Wells was angry, Cheney said, “By the fact that she hit me on the head and that she twisted my arm and it broke.”
Cheney said Wells offered her no assistance and even taunted her when she asked to be helped to the bathroom. She said she laid on her couch overnight in pain until her home health aide found her the next morning and called 911. She said it wasn’t the first time Wells had roughed her up.
“She shoved me against the wall and my head hit the picture frame,” she said, adding that she was so afraid of being assaulted by Wells that she had locks put on her bedroom door.
Wells, who denies the charges, is on trial for misdemeanor assault.
