Total Testing Solutions Background

Total Testing Solutions (TTS) is a medical diagnostic testing company based in Los Angeles. TTS was initially founded by Lauren Trenkle, PA, MPH, and Dr. Geoff Trenkle to provide customizable medicine-driven solutions for COVID-19 testing for individuals, families, and businesses. Since its inception, TTS has expanded its service offerings and client base.

In August 2022, TTS announced a partnership with Fulgent, a private lab, to offer Monkeypox PCR tests in the Los Angeles area. This testing became available at the West LA TTS site (10830 Santa Monica Blvd., Century City) and the North Hollywood TTS site (4835 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood). In-home collection could also be arranged for patients. Additional TTS locations were slated to begin offering the service in the weeks following the announcement.

The Monkeypox PCR test utilized the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) orthopoxvirus test, which detects non-smallpox related orthopoxviruses, including monkeypox. The test, available both onsite at TTS and as an in-home concierge service, involved a swab of the lesion and had a turnaround time of 1-3 days from the sample's arrival at the lab.

Lauren Trenkle, PA MPH, TTS Co-Founder and CEO, stated that the company was working with the Fulgent team to provide this testing option to local communities, describing it as an essential step to slow the spread of the disease. Over the past two years, Total Testing Solutions has offered a range of innovative testing solutions to provide access to easy and accurate testing for COVID-19 and beyond.

Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network Context

The CDC's Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (AR Lab Network) is comprised of laboratories in 50 states, as well as some cities and territories. This network includes seven high-capacity testing and reference testing regional labs and the National Tuberculosis Molecular Surveillance Center. The AR Lab Network supports laboratory testing in healthcare, community, and environmental settings.

The AR Lab Network is a collaborative effort between U.S. healthcare facility labs, public health department labs, regional labs, the National Tuberculosis Molecular Surveillance Center, and the CDC. Its purpose is to work with laboratories nationwide to identify, track, and respond to emerging and enduring antimicrobial-resistant threats. These threats include, but are not limited to, antifungal-resistant Candida (including Candida auris), antifungal-resistant dermatophytes, azole-resistant Aspergillus fumigatus, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), drug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae, drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, multidrug-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, Metallo-β-Lactamase-producing Enterobacterales, multidrug-resistant Haemophilus influenzae, vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci.

The AR Lab Network is the first network in the nation to provide comprehensive antimicrobial resistance testing of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and community-associated infections.
