LAKELAND, FL – from www.abcactionnews.com – Undercover detectives caught two Lakeland convenience stores selling explicit pornography videos, in open view, and arrested three store owners in the bust, the Polk Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
A fourth man, who detectives say was supplying the videos to the stores, was also arrested.
Last month undercover vice detectives, visited several stores in Lakeland. According to investigators, they found both Skyview Foods, located at 2939 Skyview Drive, and the Sunoco Gas Station at 2225 S. Combee Road, selling XXX DVD videos. Detectives said they the videos were located near the checkout corner of both stores, in full view of any customer.
Detectives bought videos from each store. The videos contained hardcore adult images, which a judge later ruled violated Florida’s obscenity laws.
Tuesday detectives seized 272 items from both stores. It’s illegal to sell obscene material in Polk County, something the store owners found out the hard way.
“The deal that I want to tell the smut peddlers, is take your stuff and get out,” said Sheriff Grady Judd, “If you don’t, we’re gonna put you in jail. How do you like that?”
40-year-old Baby A. Makil, the owner of Skyview Foods, and the co-owners of the Sunoco, 33-year-old Pronoy Padder [pictured] and 42-year-old Mohd P. Sazzad, were charged with wholesale promotion of obscene material, a felony, as well as several misdemeanor charges.
ABC Action News attempted to reach all three men. Off-camera Makil said he didn’t know it was illegal til he was busted.
Through their investigation detectives learned the identity of a fourth man who was supplying the material to the store owners.
During their investigation detectives tracked down the man they say was supplying the stores, 25-year-old Donald Burke of Woodbury, Georgia. They met him in the parking lot of a Davenport restaurant, where they say he sold them over 100 videos, and also asked them if they would interested in buying medical marijuana.
He was also charged with distributing obscene material, and 10 misdemeanor counts of possession. They seized 432 video from Burke’s truck.
Judd wasn’t the only one worried about the DVDs being so easily accessible.
“You don’t want to be worried about a lewd picture and their child is five or six years old and he says, Mommy what’s this? What’s Mommy gonna say?” asked customer Johnny Cornelius.
