The Security Service of Ukraine and national law enforcement agencies have uncovered a corruption scheme involving regional police officials who allegedly accepted bribes to turn a blind eye to underground pornography production outfits and adult content creators in multiple regions around the country.

Arrests Made in Corruption Probe

According to local news reports, the probe implicated the police chief for the Ivano-Frankivsk region and its deputy, as well as two deputy chiefs of the Ternopil and Zhytomyr regions. A fifth suspect served as the personal driver for a deputy Interior minister, who allegedly acted as an intermediary and a money courier in the broader corruption scheme.

The suspects were accused of receiving monthly payments of up to $25,000 per studio in exchange for shielding the adult content creators from law enforcement scrutiny.

Search Warrants Executed

Criminal investigators seized six luxury cars, five expensive Swiss watches, and roughly $510,000 while executing search warrants connected to the case. The operation was carried out by several agencies together with the National Police's internal investigations division.

Ongoing Investigations

Investigations are ongoing, notes the office of Ukraine's Prosecutor General, Ruslan Kravchenko, in a Wednesday press release. "This refers to premises where illegal erotic and pornographic video content was created, produced, and distributed via the internet," Kravchenko is quoted as saying in the release.
