UPLAND, California – A lawsuit filed by Mustang Books and Videos against the city July 10 is scheduled for closed session discussion at today’s City Council meeting. The business sells adult and sexually explicit books, magazines, movies and novelties.
A moratorium on adult licenses could be extended, up to about 10 months, prohibiting adult uses in certain parts of the city.
The 7 p.m. meeting is at City Hall, 460 N. Euclid Ave.
In the lawsuit, Mustang Books and Videos claims the city sends officers to intimidate patrons as part of an effort to drive the adult-novelty store from town.
The city denies the charges.
Along with erotic books and movies, the store also shows adult videos in arcade booths.
Upland police have conducted at least two stings since July 2005, and at least 86 people have been arrested on suspicion of lewdness.
The owners of the bookstore — I-W-M Incorporated — filed the lawsuit in Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga. They want an injunction that would forbid police from entering the business or arresting customers.
