Vicki Chase, a five-time AVN Award-winner, has received a 2024 AVN Award nomination for Mainstream Venture of the Year for her role in the indie short film Everything In Its Right Place. The film, directed by Alexander Clavijo, features Chase as Sunrise, a retiring adult performer with unresolved family issues.
The 19-minute short film, produced by Concord Pike Production, began its run on the festival circuit during the second half of 2023. Chase, who is from Los Angeles, played a porn star with a complicated personal background in her indie short film debut.
Portraying Sunrise
Chase described the role of Sunrise as a test of her acting abilities. The character, a porn star with a "fucked-up family life situation," presented dramatic scenarios that Chase found "eerily familiar." She noted that the character also reminded her of her mother.
The film was shot over several hot days in July 2022 in Los Angeles. Chase admitted to being "a little nervous and concerned" about the project due to the character's personal background mirroring aspects of her own. She stated, "Because this is a porn star and she’s got a fucked-up family life situation, a little similar to mine—not exactly, but eerily similar. So it was like what the hell is this?"
Despite her initial trepidation, Chase decided to take on the role, explaining, "I thought about it and said you know what, I like to act. And this is a character. It’s not me, so I just gave it a shot."
The challenging aspects of the assignment extended beyond the heat during filming. Chase focused on bringing the character of Sunrise to life, particularly in scenes such as an emotional session with a therapist. These scenes followed the passing of Sunrise's mother, with whom the character had not spoken in 10 years, and explored the deep resentment Sunrise harbored for her absent father.
Chase reflected on the character's journey, stating, "The character was a porn star who was retiring and this was my last scene in the industry. And I’m going to a therapist because I don’t know how to."
Career and Recognition
Vicki Chase's career in the adult industry began in 2009. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she was working at a Washington Mutual bank branch when a customer suggested she consider working in porn. After some initial hesitation, she adopted "Vicki" from her given name Victoria and "Chase" from the bank's acquisition of Washington Mutual.
Chase considers her "official" time in porn to have started in 2010 when she signed with an agency and began performing regularly. Her IAFD page lists almost 700 titles. She has been recognized with five AVN Awards prior to her current nomination.
In May 2023, Chase promoted a new high-profile showcase titled Vicki Chase Ninfómana, released by Evil Angel and directed by Jonni Darkko. This marked her second Darkko-helmed showcase, following 2014’s V for Vicki. Chase has a long-standing professional relationship with Darkko, having worked with him extensively from 2011 to 2014 on numerous POV and BJ scenes.
She expressed her appreciation for Darkko's style, stating, "Jonni and I had a good relationship long before I chose him for ‘V for Vicki.’" She added, "I just love Jonni’s style. He’s like, ‘Let’s start you out glamorous, beautiful. I love his style of shooting, where it’s like a photo shoot and I get to feel like a glamorous supermodel — and then, before you know it."
