It’s really hard to make money as a porn actor, she said. A woman can earn about $1,200 for one scene.

“But they will put that scene in 40 different movies. You never get another dime” from the reuse of that scene, she said.

“Not only that, but they saturate the market with you, and that’s not good for you,” Vette said.

Why not?

“They say the average porn girl has about 300 scenes in them. And you can see that 300 scenes in one year, and you’re done with her — or you can spread that 300 scenes over 10 years, and you can last, and get involved in other ventures along the way.”

Vette’s advice to newbies: “Own everything you shoot.”

“Things that I was shooting in 2006, 2007, 2008 are still making money for me now,” she says.

“They probably hate me for the things that I say,” she said of the industry, “but that’s how it is.”

As everyone at the porn convention and porn awards said, the financials of porn have hit the rocks because of piracy, not because of the Internet.

In other words, porn is in the same watery boat as the music industry, the TV industry — and the newspaper industry.

“The problem is,” Vette says, “all these kids growing up today have the attitude of: Oh, you’re stupid if you pay for porn. Porn is like air and good music. It’s supposed to be free for everyone to enjoy, not just for people with money.

“That’s not the right attitude. You wouldn’t go to your mechanic and say, ‘Would you mind fixing my car for free.’ You wouldn’t go to your dentist and say, ‘Would you fix my cavities for free?’

“But for some reason, I don’t deserve to get paid for what I do? I work my ass off!”

Literally.

Some changes are coming, because porn companies are suing people associated with piracy of porn.

“People are getting scared now,” Vette claims. “They don’t want their wives finding out: ‘Honey I’ve got to go to court, because I downloaded ‘Girl Gaggers’ for free last night.”
