VIRGINIA BEACH -- Mayor Meyera Oberndorf [pictured] said Tuesday that police made the right decision by dropping an obscenity charge against the manager of the local Ambercrombie & Fitch.

Oberndorf said the obscenity law was designed to tackle more offensive images put on T-shirts hanging in windows along the Oceanfront.

Meanwhile, the clothing retailer plans to re-hang the three photos, seized over the weekend, as soon as possible.

A police sergeant took the ads and charged a store manager with obscenity after complaints about the photos, which showed partially-clothed men and women.

On Monday, police dropped the charge after deciding it would not hold up in court.
