Porn- With the national news story breaking about how the real Marcia Brady [Maureen McCormick] allegedly had a lesbian affair with the real Jan Brady [Eve Plumb], Will Ryder brought his Not the Bradys XXX P.R. roadshow to LA radio Monday morning.
Ryder, who directed the parody for X Play with distribution by LFP Video, and Alana Evans who plays the mother, Carol, were guests on the Kevin & Bean Show.
The movie's now available, www.bradysxxx.com, and Ryder corrected the notion that Evans is playing the character Carol Brady.
She doesn't play Carol Brady; she just plays Carol the mom," he said. "We don't actually use the last name. [However they use a theme song that is resoundingly similar.]
"Because it's not the Bradys; it's got nothing to do with the Bradys," Ryder laughs.
"We've been doing a lot of parodies," Ryder continues. "We have a huge parody about Britney Spears called Britney Rears, and that's been very popular. I'm always waking up in the middle of the night trying to think of funny things to do- We have a Beyonce parody coming out. We have a J Lo parody. I just loved the idea of the Bradys, and I think every young man's fantasy is to see the sisters without clothes."
Ryder was asked if in casting he was looking for people who resembled the actors from the show.
"Yes and no," Ryder answered. "We kind of knew who we wanted to have. I have Alana Evans in the studio with me. She played Carol the mom and did an amazing job with that wig."
Evan laughed about it being "a tough phone call" which means she jumped immediately at the opportunity.
"We have Hillary Scott the female performer of the year playing Marcia," Ryder continued. "She did a great job. She lives in Chicago, so she's not here. But it was a lot of fun."
Ryder also noted that they were able to cast Ron Jeremy as Sam the butcher.
"Does the Hedgehog still bring it?" Ryder was also asked.
"He does- he's a great guy- he's a good friend of ours," Ryder continues.
"Ron is the kind of guy where you call and say would you be in this movie. He's actually a contracted star with one studio. He's only allowed to perform with one studio. But yet all you have to do is make sure there's lunch there, and he's definitely there. But he's a great guy and a really fun guy."
The question was also brought up if there's going to be a time when Jeremy's too old for porn.
Ryder laughed about how Jeremy keeps getting a new generation of porn girls who don't know any better and who end up in bed with him.
"Ron Jeremy's a legend," Evans added.
Ryder explained the storyline, mentioning that he is a big fan of the TV show.
"Mike the father has problems at his architectural firm with slow business so the family's facing a cash-crisis," Ryder adds. "So the kids band together and do odd jobs. They have a car wash and try to make ends meet. And Marcia unwittingly applies for a job as a figure model only later to find out she's about to star in a porno. And that's from the real series. I can't rxactly remember the name of it."
"The timing could not be any better for this release," Ryder was told. "I'm sure by now you guys have heard the big news that came out."
To which Ryder said he was very disappointed that he didn't put that type of scene in the movie.
"But there's always volume 2 that we're getting ready to shoot."
"You couldn't buy that publicity for the timing of your release," Ryder was told.
"This is the kind of movie that crosses over," said Ryder. "It goes way past the guys that buy porn, normally. This is the kind of movie that when it's on the shelf people will see it."
"We had it at a convention this weekend [Adultcon]," Ryder went on to say.
"And you would not believe the people that stopped by the booth and bought the movie and stared at the TV screen. The trailer looks remarkably similar. We did the whole thing. This is a great movie. We just got our first review for it because it's so new. And they gave it a classic rating, one of the best ever. So we're pretty excited about it. It's also a movie a guy can watch with his woman. It's not a filthy, dirty movie, like that. There's hardcore sex in it, but it's not a filthy, dirty movie. I like to say it's good, old fashioned family porn."
Ryder was asked if the show's successful, will it prompt him to raid TV Land for other ideas.
"I have a lot of ideas and projects in motion right now," Ryder says. "People come up and go why don't you do Gilligan's Island? [It's been done a number of times.]
"I love Gilligan's Island, but it's about guys," Ryder concedes. "So I have to find things that are female-driven. I have a lot of things but Not the Bradys right now is our focus. We have a Jennifer Lopez-inspired spoof coming out and that's going to be awesome. We shot that in front of the White House, we really did."
"We shot in Washington D.C. for three days," Ryder explained. "The NY Post picked up on it and did this big story."
Ryder said the title was originally going to be called Jenny Goes to Washington.
"We got permits- I got National Park Service and Secret Service, and Film D.C." he says. "We ended up shooting dialogue woith her in front of the White House. When we got there we had to show our credentials to the Secret Service. They knew everything about us. They knew my home town, what I did before. It was unbelievable. But they liked the girls so much that they almost let us into the White House because the president wasn't there. And they got overridden by a supervisor. It was unbelievable."
According to Ryder, the movie comes out in November.
"Can you imagine if we brought cameras into the White House with porn stars?" he also wonders.
"Did any of the girls get overridden if you know what I mean?" Ryder is asked.
"I think one of the Secret Service wanted to take her on a personal tour," Ryder chuckles. "Show her the oval office."
Evans said the things she's able to do as an adult star has her marveling every day that she has sex for a living but she gets to meet interesting and famous people at the same time.
"This is normal for me, but it's so much fun."
"It's the closest thing to being a rock star without playing the music," Ryder agrees.
