If you haven’t noticed lately, there’s a lot of porn cases being tried in Texas. Here’s another one and another conviction.
ARLINGTON, Tx – An Arlington man who has operated four adult bookstores in Tarrant County pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to one charge of conspiracy to commit tax evasion.
Leroy Moore Sr., 64, is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 3. He faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and liability for restitution.
Moore owns New Video in Kennedale, Bright Lights and Bright Lights II in Fort Worth and Star Adult Video in Aledo, according to the Justice Department. His business associate, Beverly Kay Van Dusen, operated the stores.
As part of the plea agreement, Moore admitted that he received some of the bookstore proceeds between January 1997 and April 2000 and that he did not report the money on his income tax returns. Moore told prosecutors that Van Dusen made cash payments to him and sometimes paid his personal expenses, such as a $7,000 down payment on a new vehicle.
No telephone number for Moore could be located Thursday.
New Video in Kennedale closed in February. The other three stores in Tarrant County remain open.
Moore, Van Dusen and other people were also indicted in March on 23 counts of racketeering, obscenity and tax charges related to the operation of dozens of adult video arcades across the United States. That case is set for trial in January.
