Adam Wilcox posts on www.xxxwasteland.wordpress.com – Transsexual performer Wendy Williams has solidified a reputation as one of the most prolific T-girl talents in adult. In her near-decade as part of the porn industry, Wendy has accumulated numerous award nominations and in 2009 captured AVN Transsexual Performer of the Year honors. The following year, she was named 2010 XBIZ Transsexual Performer of the Year, making her the only transsexual star in XXX to win awards from both AVN and XBIZ.

Q: Can you give us some background on how you entered the adult industry?

In 1999-2000, there were very few solo girl websites on the net (Foxy Angel, Meghan Chavalier, Tonya, etc) and a friend of mine showed me the sites and said we should do one. I was working in the gay clubs doing “drag” and living part-time. I didn’t want to do it at first, so we started the website as a free site for me to pretty much just show off. I would do photo sets but wouldn’t get nude and noticed that guys on AOL (Yep, good ol’ AOL) and Yahoo were asking to see more. Eventually, we set the site up as a members site and I started to get a few members here and there. My friend got married, so we had to shut the site down and I just kept it up as a free site. Fast forward to me meeting a guy on AOL who lived in Florida, and in order to make the trip financially I contacted ShemaleYum (2002) and did my first nude photo shoot. I eventually moved to Florida and started my website back up as a pay site in 2002 also.

The site HotWendyWilliams.com had its up and downs, as I couldn’t keep a webmaster. I then in 2003 was referred to Joanna Jet, who was shooting for her Jet Set Series in Florida to fill up the last scene in “Jet Set 3.” It was that website and DVD moments that thrust me into the adult industry.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of the porn business?

Officially, January will be my 10 years of being in the adult industry and I must say the best part as been the people and places I’ve met and been because of it. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to meet celebrities, travel the world and it only seems to get better with the years. Of course, the financial security for myself and my family has been a blessing of which porn opened the door too.

Q: Can you tell us about your website, www.WendyWilliamsXXX.com?

As I said above, the name and some content was around pretty early but it wasn’t until 2006 or so that I really started taking it serious – or should I say people took me serious. Currently, my website updates every week and I do a members cam show weekly. I have over 60 guest models and content dating back to early in my transition. Q: How did it feel to take home honors for 2009 AVN Transsexual Performer of the Year and XBIZ Transsexual Performer of the Year in 2010?

I will say I was overwhelmed. Early in my career, I was told I would never win awards because I didn’t look like Gia Darling or Vaniity. I am tall, I am primarily a top, average cock, husky voice and just a typical All-American white transsexual. Companies didn’t want to take a chance with me, so I had to fight tooth and nail to get acceptance. I guess they saw I wasn’t going anywhere and had to take me serious. My fans aren’t the guys who are signing my praises on message boards or review sites, but my haters were everywhere. (Laughs)

Winning AVN in 2009 was earned, as I not only had been extremely relevant from 2006 up, but in 2009 I did the first all-interracial gangbang (eight guys) and I had been featured in other DVD’s as well. Then, in 2010, I win XBIZ and that was just the icing on the cake. Currently, I am the only TS to have won both of those awards. I also won Best Solo TG Site in 2009 at the Tranny Awards and in 2010 and 2011 I have won Best Interracial Website at the Urban X Awards.

Q: Can you speak a little bit about your company, Hot Wendy Productions, and give us the story behind its launch?

In 2003, when I shot for Joanna Jet, she was based out of the U.K and needed someone to run her office in L.A. She moved me to L.A in 2004 and began teaching me the ropes of the industry. At that time, the only independent transsexuals with their own distribution and production companies were Gia Darling and Joanna. Joanna taught me how to produce and the steps to producing a DVD for distribution. In the beginning, I launched my first series, Wendy’s Wild Shemales, under her label and eventually broke off to form Hot Wendy Productions and begin distributing with Avalon. Now, I am with Blue Coyote.

Q: Do you feel that transsexual talent is treated with the same respect as non-transsexual talent in the adult industry?

From the beginning of my career until now it has gotten better, but there are many areas where we are still shunned. Did you know there was no category for Transsexual Performer of the Year with AVN until 2006 and still to this date we don’t get the honor to accept our award on stage?

However, I was able to present an award in 2010, which is a good step towards visibility. I will say that XBIZ and Urban X Awards have given stage time for the honor, so bravo to them. We as transsexual models are held to the same testing standards as females. However, many companies and talent have issues with crossover talent who work with us because of stereotypes. Sad, huh? I’ve noticed that a lot of companies enjoy making the money off the transsexual genre – which is one of the biggest selling porn niches – but don’t want to put those same models on posters, signing at events or other PR activities. Don’t get me wrong: It’s getting better every year, but still no where to the same level as female talent.

Q: What are some common misconceptions about transsexual performers that you have encountered during your time in the adult business?

That we don’t test, all of us have HIV, men who sleep with transsexuals are gay, blah, blah.

Q: Is there one erroneous belief about the porn industry in general that you wish to dispel?

I was never raped by my father (Laughs), I have an accepting family, I have no deep mental issues that guided me to doing porn except I enjoy having lots of safe sex.

Q: Who are some of your favorite studios and performers to work with?

My favorite studio is SMC Network (Shemale-Club). They maintain my website, but even before they took me on two years ago I had the chance to shoot for their sites, and from makeup to sets it was like working at Playboy to me. Nick, their photographer, is amazing and I love how they really put a lot into production.

My all time favorite Producer is Joey Silvera. I’ve worked for him twice and both times you knew you were standing in greatness. Evil Angel and Joey are one of the biggest factors of bringing TSs into mainstream. As talent, I am impressed with a lot of our newer generation like Mandy Mitchell, Jesse Flores, Foxxy, Amy Daly, Juliette Stray, etc., because they are really good and bringing in new fans to the genre. I am still determined before I retire to be directed by Belladonna and Chi Chi Larue.

Q: Let’s learn a little bit about Wendy Williams, the person. Where were you raised and how would you describe yourself growing up?

I was raised very poor class in the hills of Eastern Kentucky. I never saw anyone who wasn’t white until college, I grew up on food stamps and charity. My family has worked in the coal mines for many generations. My great grandmother took me in when I was in the sixth grade and then gave me an amazing life, put me through college and gave me some amazing lessons in life.

Q: What are some of your interests and hobbies?

Well, as you can see, over the years I’ve become kind of thick (Laughs). I love – love – Italian food. I left L.A in 2007 and moved back to Kentucky to be close to my grandparents, who at that time were getting older. Now I enjoy working in the alternative clubs on the weekends and when home during the week, you catch me doing cam shows and laying on my couch.

Q: Is there one thing you can tell us about yourself that you feel would surprise most people?

Actually, no. I have been very open with everyone about my life in full. I’ve let social networks into my life since MySpace.

Q: Are there any current or upcoming projects in the works that you would like to mention?

My toy line with Doc Johnson came out this year with 4 initial products: Wendy Williams Salad Tossing Sprays in Lollipop and Strawberry, Wendy Williams Anal Trainer Kit and the first life-sized molded ass, “Wendy Williams Molded Ass and Balls.” I am continuing to work with them with more products and promoting my line there.

September 9, I am hosting a T-girl and Admirers Party in Lexington, Kentucky, at Bluegrass Connection and then September 24 hosting a party at Fusion Lounge in Manhattan.
