from www.wausaudailyherald.com – ASHWAUBENON — An 89-year-old Ashwaubenon man is scheduled to be in court today on two sexual-assault charges, and investigators are looking for other potential victims.
Raymond F. Vorpahl is accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in December, and with a then 42-year-old woman in 2009, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brown County Circuit Court. He is charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 16, a felony; and fourth-degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor.
Ashwaubenon Public Safety officials said they’re conducting interviews to see whether there are other possible victims. Lt. Jody Crocker said Vorpahl and his late wife provided foster care and baby-sitting services at their home in the 800 block of Glory Road.
“We have reason to believe there may be other victims,” Crocker said. “The investigation has some other leads.”
No criminal allegations are on the record against Vorpahl’s late wife. Raymond Vorpahl does not have a police record, Crocker said.
One reason investigators believe there may be other possible victims is that Crocker said Vorpahl told police his license to provide foster care was suspended approximately 30 years ago because of an allegation that Vorpahl had exposed himself to another child.
Investigators have not been able to confirm that statement, Crocker said. He said he does not believe the couple operated a day care center, but provided baby-sitting and foster care at their residence.
“They did do baby-sitting for people, but we don’t know who those people are,” Crocker said.
The investigation began when a 13-year-old girl and her father contacted officers and said Vorpahl had fondled her on Dec. 28, Crocker said. He said the allegation led police to a woman who alleged Vorpahl had touched her in a sexual manner on multiple occasions between 1988 and May 2010.
The alleged incidents occurred at Vorpahl’s home, according to the criminal complaint.
Vorpahl was arrested and booked into Brown County Jail on Wednesday after a criminal complaint and warrant were filed through the Brown County District Attorney’s office.
