from www.dailymail.co.uk – A former teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy has had her trial date for rape set for next month on May 7.
Mother of three, Kristy Sanchez-Trujillo was fired from Jimmy Carter Middle School after telling Albuquerque police she had sex twice with the teenager.
Both times Miss Sanchez-Trujillo took the boy to the movies, then drove him to the Petroglyph National Monument where they had sexual intercourse.
The former social studies teacher told police that the sex they had was ‘loving and caring’ and the boy, ‘was more experienced than any man she’s had sex with’.
She described the boy as, ‘a 25-year-old in a 13-year-old’s body’.
Appearing in court dressed in a simple cardigan and white trousers, Miss Sanchez-Trujillo heard that her trial for rape of a minor which stems from incidents in October 2009 will begin in May.
On bail since then, the former teacher who was 33-years-old at the time is also accused of violating conditions of her release by visiting a prohibited spot.
The charges relate back to when Miss Sanchez-Trujillo taught the 7th grade at Jimmy Carter Middle School and the then 13-year-old was one of her students.
Concerned one night that the victims brother had seen them at the movies she spoke in confidence to a school colleague.
That lead directly to her arrest.
‘Miss Sanchez-Trujillo confided in another teacher that she was having an innapropriate relationship with a student,’ said Albuquerque Police Department Officer Nadine Hamby.
‘That teacher thankfully came forward immediately, told police, and Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department contacted Albuquerque police.’
The depth of their relationship was laid bare when Miss Sanchez-Trujillo told police that after going to the movies they would visit the petroglyphs which she referred to as ‘our spot’, which is where they would have sex in her car.
Both times that the teacher and the boy had sex she drove him home after midnight.
The first time she returned him was at five in the morning.
According to Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department Miss Sanchez-Trujillo began work as an educational assistant at Afrisco Elementary School in 1998, took two leaves of absence and began teaching at Jimmy Carter Middle School in 2007.
As well as potentially ruining her own life, Miss Sanchez-Trujillo destroyed her fathers ambitions to be appointed sheriff of Bernalillo County.
He removed his bid soon after his daughter was charged.
In the intervening years since her arrest, Miss Sanchez-Trujillo has been studying for her masters in social work at Highlands University’s branch campus in Rio Rancho.
It is understood that the prosecutor in her case is willing to offer her a deal in return for a guilty plea, because if she was found guilty by a jury she would be a felon and have to register on the sex offenders list.
That would end all chances she had of ever re-entering child education.
